Alcohol blamed in Cultus Lake drowning Monday
Chilliwack RCMP are reminding people about the dangers of mixing alcohol and swimming after a man drowned in Cultus Lake early Monday evening.
At approximately 6:35 p.m., Mounties were called to Entrance Bay where several individuals reported a friend was last seen close to the waterline.
Chilliwack General Duty members and the Lower Mainland District Integrated Police Dog Service (IPDS) arrived at the scene and began to search for the male.
The IPDS handler removed his duty belt, according to a Chilliwack RCMP press release, entered the water and found the male a short time later.
"This is a very tragic incident," RCMP spokesperson Cst. Tracy Wolbeck said. "Although there will be no criminal investigation regarding this incident, police believe alcohol to be a strong contributing factor in this drowning."
The man's name was not released, and the file is in the hands of the BC Coroner Service.
