An 87-year-old woman is dead after a three-vehicle accident Saturday in Chilliwack.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Ashwell and Lazenby roads after 3 p.m. Saturday.

In addition to the fatality, two other people were critically injured and, as of Monday morning, remained in hospital.

The identity of the deceased woman has not been made public pending notification of next of kin.

The Chilliwack Municipal Traffic Section and the Lower Mainland District Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Services (ICARS) currently have conduct of the investigation. Early reports indicate that one of the vehicles crossed the centre line resulting in a head-on collision.

"It does not appear at this time that alcohol was in any way a factor in this collision," RCMP spokesperson Const. Tracy Wolbeck said. "ICARS will continue their investigation into the cause of this tragic accident."
