Homicide investigators on the scene of early morning shooting downtown Chilliwack
Two people are dead and homicide investigators are at the scene of a downtown Chilliwack apartment building.
“What I can tell you at this time in this dynamic, unfolding case is that tragically we’re investigating the death of two individuals,” Insp. Davis Wendell, RCMP regional duty officer, told CTV News.
Neighbours said they heard multiple shots ring out around 4 a.m. and saw five people flee in a Mazda hatchback.
Police are still offering few details, but a huge area surrounding Hawthorne Manor at the corner of Gore Avenue and Nowell Street is cordoned off, and the RCMP's Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is present.
One neighbour told the Times she heard approximately half a dozen police cars and more than one ambulance arrive on the scene at approximately 4:30 a.m. Thursday.
"Our investigators are working closely with members of the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment to advance this case," said Sergeant Bari Emam of IHIT.
"It is too early to discuss motive or the specific circumstances surrounding this incident, however, this incident appears to be targeted.”
More details as they become available.
IHIT is asking anyone who was in the area of 46100 block of Gore Avenue in Chilliwack between 3:30 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. on August 7, 2014 who may have witnessed any suspicious persons or vehicles in this area, or has witnessed anything in relation to this incident to please call the IHIT Tipline at 1-877-551-4448; or reach to them by email at email@example.com.
