2012 was a year of significant change for your local Chamber. With the year drawing to a close and with an exciting 2013 on the horizon, we want to take this opportunity to bring the business community up to date on what has been accomplished during 2012.

In addition to the many successful high-profile events-including the recent 18th annual Business Excellence Awards-a number of outstanding networking opportunities took place. Chamber members of all sizes have expressed appreciation for these gatherings including the valuable exposure to interesting speakers, community leaders, as well as opportunities for personal and professional development.

Just as importantly, your Chamber has become more active in advocating to government on behalf of members on important issues such mobile business licensing, derelict buildings and others. Traditionally, that has been a crucial role of a chamber.

We are pleased to tell you that we have made significant advancements in that responsibility throughout 2012 and will continue to do so in the future. From the feedback received from members, it is an activity that is both overdue and welcome.

As well, over the past year, the Chilliwack Chamber of Commerce has undergone some significant changes to the way it does business internally. Membership dues pay for a large part of the organization's operations. The professional and efficient management of these funds and best practices in respect to all internal administrative operations are taken very seriously. The addition of new relationship manager software has added increased value to our membership and to the way we conduct business. As the voice of business we take the lead on best practices and strongly support our businesses in numerous ways.

We are one of the fastest growing Chambers in B.C. in 2012 and it reflects well on our Chamber and community. We welcome the following new members for October and November: Akal Gardens Ltd Keith Graham Photography Kerkhoff Engineering Ltd.
