MP gets nod to chair caucus

Mark Strahl got a promotion this week.

The Chilliwack-Fraser Canyon MP was named chair of the B.C./Yukon caucus by Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

The role means Strahl will chair a weekly meeting of Conservative MPs and senators from across the British Columbia and Yukon region. He will also chair the bi-annual B.C./ Yukon stakeholder meetings that take place in Vancouver, according to a press release issued Thursday.

"I feel honoured and humbled to have been asked by the Prime Minister to take over this important role," Strahl said. "As a proud British Columbian, I look forward to taking the concerns of my B.C./Yukon colleagues, our constituents and regional stakeholders to the Prime Minister and our national caucus colleagues."

As part of his new job, Strahl will report on regional issues to the national caucus and to Harper.

Strahl's other duties include membership on the Standing Committee on National Defence and the Standing Committee on Health.
