Outdoor concert series set for Sardis
Party in the Park is a familiar sight to those around downtown Chilliwack: one part block party, one part open market, three parts giant stage and live, local music.
And this summer, Jeff Bonner of Tractorgrease Multimedia aims to bring a taste of that experience to the south side of Chilliwack, starting on Aug. 14.
Along with a host of volunteers, Bonner will be setting up a stage in the field next to the Vedder Bridge in Sardis, where half a dozen local musical acts will perform on Thursdays for the next three weeks.
Bonner is a staple of Chilliwack’s music scene, as one of the “great creators” behind Tractorgrease Multimedia in town.
Once he put his mind to putting on the Southside shows, the musicians came together in a snap.
“I know all the bands that are involved in this—they’ve been around, or they’ve worked in the studio, or been a part of my jams,” he says. “We’re just trying to create a cool outdoor music event for the south side of town.”
Setting up by the river was a natural choice—it’s close to the heart of the Sardis community, and just a short jaunt from Cultus and Yarrow. Best of all, the spot highlights the beauty of Chilliwack; mountains rise around the site, and the Vedder River rushes below.
“We knew that right down by the river would be the perfect spot,” Bonner says. “It’s by the Rotary Trail and Garrison Crossing, so people can just walk down to the event.”
All in all, it’s designed as a low-key way to spend a summer evening. Without tickets or a cover charge, it’s perfect for residents to drop in and enjoy, whether they choose to bring their families, their dancing shoes, or a picnic.
