Great ballet

Editor:

On Friday evening my wife and I attended Chilliwack Cultural Centre for the performance by Ballet Jorgen of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake.

I have to admit that I approached the event with an open mind, this is not exactly Covent Garden after all.

We were treated to an altogether marvellous and wondrous display of both artistic excellence and physical display and interpretation of this ballet, which is probably the world's most famous. Ballet Jorgen is to congratulated fully. May they go from strength to strength.

I am familiar with the story of Swan Lake and must say that Bengt Jorgen's setting of it on Canada's east coast plus, presumably, his variance of the dramatic ending was entirely appropriate and, to my mind, more emotional.

As the audience in the packed auditorium gave the cast, augmented by a number of local performers, a standing ovation one can only suggest that it would be a good idea that this might be the first in a number of such performances of classical ballet here.

Next stop, the Nutcracker at Christmas?
