Some of the most renowned ukulele players in Canada will be at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on Feb. 10, at 2: 30 p.m. for Music with Heart: Ukuleles and Valentines
The Rotary Hall Studio Theatre will be filled with songs of love as the Langley Ukulele Ensemble showcases its expertise and skill with the ukulele.
Songs such as "Somewhere My Love," "Goodnight Sweetheart," "When the Moon Hits Your Eyes," and "Un There Was You" will remind us that there is something for every lovebird in the crowd as the ensemble plucks at our heartstrings.
The first in the Rain Mountain Classical Music Series, this performance is presented in partnership with the Chilliwack Arts & Cultural Centre Society and the Chilliwack Academy of Music. Featuring songs of the heart, the Langley Ukulele Ensemble in Music with Heart will wow the audience as their ukes strum the classical works of Brahms, Bach, Mozart, Pachelbel, Gershwin and Rimsky-Korsakov; pop tunes by many artists from the 1950s to the 1980s, and folk/ethnic music from a variety of countries. The key theme of "love" will flow through the show in an exciting and entertaining presentation perfect for you and your significant other this Valentine's Day.
With a history spanning 30-plus years, the Langley Ukulele Ensemble has toured all across Canada including two stints at the Stratford Summer Music Festival and two visits to the Nova Scotia Ukulele Ceilidh. This exclusive ensemble is composed of 20 young musicians, ages 12 to 19. Their concerts focus on bringing the ukulele to a wider audience and teaching the joys of this recognizable four-stringed instrument.
The ensemble director, Peter Luongo, has been the driving force in capturing the essence of the uke-bringing it to the masses and showcasing its versatility.
Luongo and the ensemble perform 50 to 80 shows a year in the Langley community, as well as concerts across Canada, and in Florida, Texas, California, the Pacific Northwest, Japan and Hawaii.
