Musical auditions Secondary Characters holds auditions for its fourth annual summer musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, April 5, 6 and 7 at St. Thomas Church Hall, 46048 Gore Ave. The play runs July 24 to August 4. The show requires a large cast of all ages, genders and voice types, with casting open for all roles. Leading roles include Joseph (male, tenor, 18-28) and the Narrator (female, soprano, 18-60).
Joseph features 13 important roles for men. For the auditions, actors must prepare one memorized musical theatre number and be available for call-backs on April 14 from 5 to 9 p.m. Pre-registration is mandatory. Recycled art Fraser Valley artist Aaron Moran brings issues of land use, zoning and sustainability into his sculptural pieces made from found wood. Lobby art The Chilliwack Arts & Cultural Centre Society and the Chilliwack Visual Artists Association invites the public to a reception in honour of the artists who have contributed to the centre's inaugural lobby art exhibition. Come down to the centre on April 9 at 6 p.m. for a meet and greet with the artists who provided the pieces adorning the walls throughout the facility. Featuring the work of Nadia Andriashek, David Alexander Boyd, Errol Brimacombe, Gary Haggquist, Donna Hitchens, Ramona Kreitewolf, Vincent Mikuska, Maxwell Newhouse, Sylvie Roussel-Janssens, Pierre Trembley, and Debbie Weismiller, this is an opportunity to meet the artists and discuss their work.
CSO Baroque The Chilliwack Symphony Orchestra and Chorus is at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre for an evening of baroque music on April 13. The evening's concert will begin with the delightful "Sound the Trumpet" by 17th century English composer Henry Purcell, and will be followed by selections performed by guests the Monteverdi Symposium. Painting show The Agassiz Monday Painters 52nd annual Art Show is April 13 at Agassiz United Church Hall, 6860 Lougheed Hwy., from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All ages are welcome to come and enjoy the talents of the 25 participating artists who work in a variety of media. Lines and clay The current Chilliwack Visual Artists Association (CVAA) exhibition at the the Chilliwack Cultural Centre Gallery running until April 20 is called Drawing the Line Shaping the Clay and features the artwork of local clay artist Ted Driediger and sketch artist Heinz Klassen. Function and form is explored and enlivened through the use of pattern, texture and colour.
Zappacosta Bozzini's welcomes back to the Upstairs Lounge an intimate performance by a true Canadian pop icon, Alfie Zap-pacosta. Edmonton's Andrew Glover will join him on piano. Zappacosta was set to return to Chilliwack for a pair of concert dates at Bozzini's Upstairs in January, but a medical condition prevented him from flying. Zappacosta performs April 25. Student art The next show at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre art gallery is an annual exhibition showcasing the artwork of high school students from School District 33. Missionary and education assistant Stefanie Beute is raising funds for her next trip to the Philippines this summer with an art sale, April 20 at Decades Coffee Club, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Beute will be selling 8.5-by-11-inch prints of her drawings and paintings, as well as note cards and some original pieces. This will be Beute's third trip to the Philippines, and she will be doing everything from working with street children, to youth work, to visiting and teaching in remote mountain tribes.
