You may have seen them smiling on local Shaw TV or perhaps on Global TV Morning news with Lynn Collier, and best friends Julie Houlker, Michelle Rickaby and Glenda Standeven have good reason to be smiling.
The three women are cancer survivors as well as co-authors of the book Choosing to Smile, which chronicles their life stories before, during and after their respective cancer diagnoses.
Choosing to Smile is rapidly becoming a local best seller but these dynamic ladies have international aspirations. Their book is on the way to becoming a Canadian bestseller after having sold close to 1,000 copies in the first five months since its release.
These three determined B.C. women have also started a worldwide movement for people who have faced any type of adversity and who are "Choosing to Smile." Their Facebook group has more than 4,000 members from around the world.
"We have people of all ages, both men and women, who have read and loved our book," says Glenda Standeven. "It's not just for cancer patients. It's a book that one reviewer described as, 'encompassing the wholeness of life' which we think is a very apt description."
- The book is available online and in a variety of locations listed on the Choosing to Smile website, www.choosingtosmile.com. Join the "Choosing to Smile" movement on Facebook where you can listen to their uplifting theme song and share your choosing to smile moments.
