Editor:
The Fraser Health Authority humoured us with a meeting last week, and Dr. Paul Van Buynder was on hand to provide information and answer questions about the chlorination of the water in Chilliwack.
With measured words and constant pacing the doctor ran the clock by repeating himself repeatedly. It would seem that chlorination is a provincial government directive, and that is where changes could possibly be effected, but not within the Health Authority.
They would agree our water is pure, but they want it to be more pure. The poison is to be added so as to possibly prevent possible outbreaks that are E. coli related.
He would not talk about alternate methods, or the source of, and prevention of, contamination. Sadly, he did not even know what the word manure meant.
We were invited to contact them. Their website address for email is feedback@fraserhealth.ca or by telephone at 1-877-935-5669 or 604-587-4600. The Provincial Health Officer is Perry Kendall.
