Christmas displays may have been up for weeks but the holiday season really kicks off this weekend.
Breakfast with Santa
First thing Saturday morning (Dec. 1) head over to Carman United Church (7258 Vedder Rd.) for breakfast with Santa and a Christmas pantry sale from 9 a.m. until noon. Enjoy a visit and breakfast with Santa and /or do your Christmas baking the easy way. There will be lots of yummy sweets for sale, baked goods, preserves, jams, antipasto, breads and cookies by the dozen.
Animated Christmas Village
After that, check out Dickens 14th annual Animated Christmas Village. The village is indoors, wheelchair friendly and admission is free. Donations will be gratefully accepted towards the purchase of wheelchairs or food to be donated to the Chilliwack Food Bank. For opening times and the dates of Santa's visits go to www.dickenssweets.com or call 604-793-1981.
Stroll down Jingle Bell Lane
Later in the day is Jingle Bell Lane put on by the Downtown Chilliwack Business Improvement Association and the City of Chilliwack. Central Community Park will be transformed into a Christmas wonderland from 4 to 8 p.m. Like the popular Party in the Park, there will be free, family-friendly entertainment, a special tree-lighting, an old-fashioned Christmas carol sing-along and a visit from Santa Claus. Visitors are encouraged to bring a canned food item or a cash donation for the food bank.
Advent praise concert
And if you haven't had enough yule spirit for one weekend, Chilliwack United Church (45835 Spadina Ave.) hosts an Advent Praise concert on Dec. 2, at 2 p.m. There will be four churches performing their own Christmas songs, as well as three songs sung by the mass choir. Admission is a canned good for the Salvation Army Food Bank.
