An 18-year-old Chilliwack man was taken to hospital and is in stable condition after an early morning assault Friday.

Police say the man became involved in a "brief scuffle" with another person in the area of Nowell Street around 1 a.m. that left the victim with substantial injuries.

"This is a very serious assault and we are looking for any witnesses who may have been in the downtown area during this time," RCMP spokesperson Const. Tracy Wolbeck said.
