An animated project featuring sets of jumbled footprints that all eventually walk together along the same path won Sardis secondary Grade 11 student HaeJoo Oh $1,000 in a local International Women's Day art contest last week.

The contest was co-sponsored by the Chilliwack chapter of Soroptimist International (a service organization for business and professional women working to improve the lives of women and girls) and the office of Chilliwack-Hope MLA Gwen O'Mahony.

Students were asked to submit a work on the theme "Standing Together: A new generation united against violence," and Oh's work was selected by a panel of local media experts. Another Sardis Grade 11 student, Nadia Van Den Berg took second prize and $500 for an illustrated poem, while Zoe Wieler, a Grade 7 student at G.W. Graham middle school was awarded third prize and $250 for a mixed media drawing.

"These young people are the future and in raising their voices with ours, they have signaled their readiness to work for the peace and security all people are born to live in," Chilliwack Soroptimist president Anita Rogers said.

? Winners will be awarded their prizes at a reception this Saturday at O'Mahony's constituency office (Suite 101A - 8615 Young Rd.) at 5: 30 p.m.
