A 100-pound sculpture with great sentimental value has been stolen from a downtown Chilliwack property.

The Book Man owner Amber Short's husband Jeremy Galpin carved the bear that went missing out of black Swedish granite during a stone-sculpture apprenticeship in Paris in 1998.

"He had the sculpture shipped back to Vancouver by shipping container, and it has safely 'guarded' the front door of his homes over the years," said Short, who owns The Book Man on Wellington Avenue. "It has resided outside of our home for the past five years, and people often comment on how beautiful it is. It has great sentimental value, as it's a reminder of a wonderful experience in Jeremy's life, as well as being a lovely sculpture."

Short said the sculpture was stolen on Nov. 8 from the Corbould Park area of downtown Chilliwack.

The couple are hoping for its return, no questions asked. Anyone with information can email metalwoodstone@gmail.com
