City wraps negotiations with Players Guild for more space

 

 
 
 

The City of Chilliwack has finalized a deal with the Players Guild for a custom-built space attached to the Landing Sport Centre.

The city is building an annex that will serve as the Players Guild's new home base. The guild plans to move into the space this September.

At Monday's council meeting, the city signed off on an agreement under which the Players Guild will provide $20,000 for the construction of the annex and annual rent of $1.50 from each ticket sold for guild performances (estimated at $20,000 annually).

CHILLIWACK LIBRARY SEES SIX PER CENT GROWTH IN ATTENDANCE

More people are attending more programs, withdrawing more books, and placing more holds at the Chilliwack Library, according to the Fraser Valley Regional Library's quarterly report.

Attendance rose six per cent in April, May and June, from 82,021 in the second quarter of 2009 to 87,158 this year.

Circulation in April, May and June, rose even more. It was up more than 16 per cent, from 186,604 in the second quarter of 2009 to 217,705 during the same time period this year.

Cheam Leisure Centre draws more users as popularity grows

The rebuilt Cheam Leisure Centre is attracting more and more users, according to the quarterly report of Chilliwack's Parks, Recreation and culture Department.

The Cheam centre averaged 370 people a day in April, 424 users in May and 511 in June. The centre also issued 86 Leisure Access Passes (LAP) in the second quarter.

About 35,000 total visits were reported in the first "two-plus months" the leisure centre was opened, according to the report.

Cheam still has a ways to go before it matches the Landing Leisure Centre, however. Average daily attendance at the centre was 859 in April, 811 in May and 775 in June. Attendance peaked at 1,511 people on a single day in June.
