One person is dead after a head-on crash on Highway 7 between Agassiz and Hope Thursday afternoon.
Mounties say an eastbound minivan crashed head on into a westbound fully loaded transport truck hauling grain.
The driver and lone occupant of the van died at the scene. The truck driver, a 59-year-old man from Mission, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Both vehicles erupted in flames immediately after the crash, which took place just east of the Waleach Road intersection.
Witnesses reported that the 2013 Dodge van crossed the centre line of the roadway for unknown reasons. It collided directly with he 2012 Peterbuilt truck, and both vehicles came to a rest in opposite ditches.
While the road was wet and the sky overcast, Mounties say weather does not appear to have been a factor. They have not ruled out driver inattention or mechanical issues
The name of the driver of the van has not been released.
Highway 7 was closed for several hours but has since re-opened.
Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact Const. Lee Keane at 604-702-4039.
