Spending money on a second language is money well spent for our students.

It undoubtedly stimulates the brain cells. But for heaven's sake let us stimulate them in the right direction. I dare say less than one per cent of our population speak French. In Europe, the most important language is English followed by German and Spanish, much to the chagrin of France.

Some people still hang on to the old story of Canada built on the foundation of two founding nations.The strength and character which has sustained this nation is largely embedded in the British character.

Take a glance at the second World War and see what sacrifices Britain made to secure a safe enclave from Fascism, which included many French citizens who had escaped from France to England.

But, back to our students. Let us give them a choice of Spanish, German or French.

Come on now-be brave.
