Mounties arrested a 38-year-old man and seized more than a thousand marijuana plants during a raid on a Chilliwack Mountain grow operation earlier this month.

Police executed a search warrant pertaining to theft of electricity at a home in the 8400 block of Grand View Drive.

Inside the house, police found 1,450 marijuana plants, along with an electrical bypass that was diverting power around a BC Hydro meter.

"It appears that the house was being used solely as a grow op," said Const. Bryan Martell, of the Chilliwack Drug Section. "There were very few signs of obvious residential usage."

Mounties arrested a man at the home. He was later released to appear in court at a later date.

While the number of grow-op busts has decreased in recent years, Mounties say they continue to pursue them.

"The Chilliwack RCMP Drug Section continues to focus on illegal marijuana grow operations as they pose a significant public safety risk to our community," RCMP spokesperson Const. Tracy Wolbeck said. "There is often an organized crime connection to grow-ops and in keeping with our strategic priorities, we will continue to target these."
