Rules of the road disobeyed

Editor:

There is definitely an increase in the usual violations of traffic laws in this community and little, if any, enforcement of same.

These infractions include excessive speeding, failure to stop at controlled intersections, aggresive driving by many violators.

Of even more concern, they include new drivers identified by the decals displayed on their vehicles. One intersection is Spadina and Corbould, which is heavily travelled by both vehicles and pedestrians due in part to the public facilities available nearby. The 4-way stop sign, in my estimation, is adhered to by approximately 30 per cent, who will come to a complete stop. The remaining "roll through" while others "barrel through" at excessive speed if no other vehicle is on scene and continue accelerating from this location to Wellington Street.

Pedestrian traffic during evening dark hours, often raining, reducing visibility and those of advanced age slow to respond to spending danger, contribute to the risk factor as well. I believe that the aforesaid increase in infractions is due in part to those drivers previously obeying traffic laws observing continuing violations by so many without apparent consequences have decided to do same. This will surely result in tragic consequences eventually.

I have forwarded my concern by speaking to the mayor's office and am assured that it will be brought to the attention of those concerned with such matters.
