I was catching up on reading some of the local papers and read the article about Promontory school being vandalized once again.
Mrs. Carradice said that it was best to keep the schools in darkness because in her opinion the damage was being done by kids trying to entertain their peers and if it was too dark for them to see, then they did not have an audience. I had thought Mrs. Carradice was hired for human resources when she came to our district, then switched to finance, but I am not sure when she took on the role of crime reduction specialist. I somehow thought the RCMP were more of the experts in this field.
Not many years ago the RCMP did a walk around at CSS and had them add lights to the side of the school because it was so dark and it opened it up to crime being committed. It seems to me if the school is lit up that it would be more likely that it would deter crime as the RCMP suggested at CSS and also allow those living around the school or driving by to report anything they may see that is suspicious to the police.
