The carjacking of a pizza delivery vehicle Sunday night ended with the alleged perpetrator in custody.
Mounties say a man used a weapon to steal the delivery driver's vehicle just after 10 p.m. Sunday in the 8500 block of Young Road, in the vicinity of City Hall.
Patrols in the area turned up the vehicle, and RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Len vanNieuwenhuizen said police "tracked" the car as it drove to Fairfield Island, then to the Rosedale area and then back to Fairfield.
Witnesses reported that the car drove at a high rate of speed down Young Road, followed shortly after by a large number of police cruisers.
VanNieuwenhuizen said the suspect eventually left his vehicle on Fairfield Island and ran through several backyards.
Police dogs were brought to the scene and eventually found the man lying on the roof of a home.
The man was arrested. In addition to the pending robbery charge, VanNieuwenhuizen said the suspect was prohibited from driving.
The name of the suspect has not yet been released.
