Chilliwack indie-rock band Empty After will hit the stage in CiVL Radio's Battle of the Bands competition June 8.
The band was formed in December 2012 when Amanda Doucette (vocalist) replied to a Craigslist ad placed by brothers Brandon (guitarist) and Tyler Yanciw (drummer).
"Since we've only been playing together for a short time, we're still learning and developing as a band," Brandon said. "We each bring different musical backgrounds into the mix and our songwriting process is very collaborative, which we believe is what builds our unique sound."
The band recently played its first show at the District Public House.
"Owner Brad Stuart was nice enough to let us open for some local bands," Tyler said. "We took some videos of us playing and on a whim we submitted one to CiVL Radio's upcoming Battle of the Bands. Much to our excitement, we were chosen to participate. Forty-seven bands applied and CiVL only picked 18, so that was a bit of a confidence boost.
"We're definitely trying to practice as much as we can in anticipation of our show's date [June 8]. It's a bit intimidating since most of the other bands involved have been together for years, whereas this contest will only be our second show."
The band hopes friends and fans alike show up for the June 8 show to help support them . . . and hopefully sway the judges.
"Turnout and crowd response are some of the areas we're going to be judged on, so the more people we can get to show up and make noise for us, the better chances we have," Doucette said.
