2003: Casino planned

Langley's history, as recorded in the files of the Langley Advance.

Canada's pitiful pension plan

I have just submitted my application for the pitiful pension supplied by the Government of Canada to its senior citizens.

Politics depressing for all

Re: Let Grade 12 students vote, Burnaby NOW, May 31.

The campaign is finished

This week the premier had another campaign event - I mean a government announcement of the incoming cabinet, which will presumably include her after the upcoming by-election. Most heads of government choose to announce their cabinet choices in the halls of parliament or the legislature, but not Premier Clark, she of the permanent campaign. Instead we were treated to a campaign rally at Canada Place, with each announced minister being used as a prop for at least one governing promise by the premier. Perhaps she is unaware of this, but the campaign is over and now it's time to attend to the sober work of governing; if someone could inform the premier of this, it would be most welcome.

Chamber looks to Clark to aid economy

Now that the provincial election is behind us, the crew at the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce hopes Christy Clark's government will act on its commitment to shrink B.C.'s deficit, and also do something about skilled labour shortages and that pesky PST.

MLAs take up key cabinet spots

Both of Langley's MLAs, plus two more with Langley connections, will be at the cabinet table in Victoria.

NDP didn't offer enough change

The path from Opposition to Government runs through Gen Squeeze.

Planned CapU cuts show degree priorities

"The creation of Capilano University will mean thousands of students throughout the Howe Sound corridor will have access to degree-granting programs and be able to reach their educational goals close to home."

Another cause for Huntington to champion

Vicki Huntington has sold us on her ability as an independent to speak freely for South Delta.

Enbridge decision applauded

NORTH Vancouver's Tsleil-Waututh Nation is applauding an announcement by the province that it cannot support Enbridge's Northern Gateway oil pipeline project.

Brave new economy going to pot

I dreamed I woke up this morning and found a plastic me.

B.C. NDP failed to offer enough change

The path from Opposition to government runs through Gen Squeeze.

Trudeau and Quebec: Get a room

So tell me: When do the wisps of smoke cease being a warning and instead give way to full-blown inferno?

Businesses hopeful after election

Burnaby business leaders believe it will be business as usual under the new Liberal government.

Prime Minister needs to lead the cleanup

Once upon a time, Prime Minister Stephen Harper's statements of outrage against government waste and cronyism sounded more convincing. That time was when he and the Conservatives were in Opposition.

Business as usual after election

After 12 years in power, the Liberal party had become arrogant and detached from ordinary people. Give credit to Christy Clarke for putting a fresh face on an old sow. She was aided by the departure of so many cabinet ministers responsible for the harmonized sales tax, B.C. rail, stadium roof and other betrayals of the public trust.

New rules needed for candidates

I would just like to comment on the past provincial election. I was interested in voting for the Green Party candidate for Coquitlam-Maillardville, so I investigated.

Harper outrage lacks substance
