Success for Chilliwack's Spartan Swim Club
The Spartan Swim Club attended the Richmond West Coast Open Swim meet to compete against 550 athletes from across the Lower Mainland May 3 and 4.
Competing in the girls 11 and under category was Jaelyn Bjornerud-Brown splashing into seventh in the 50m breaststroke. Halle Causton finished with a fifth in the 50m Butterfly and Julia Hirch swam to sixth in the 50m Butterfly.
In the Boys 11 and under division Spartan Swimmer Sean Deacon won the 200m fly, was second in the 200m free and was third in the 50m free, 200m back, 100m fly and eighth in the 200m individual medley (I.M.). Calvin Dumont–Belanger placed third in the 400IM, fourth in the 400m free, sixth in the 100m back and seventh in the 100m fly
The 12- to 13-year-old girls division showed Anna Dumont-Belanger coming fifth in the 400 IM and seventh in the 200m fly; while Kara Wismer was second in the 200IM, third in the 400 IM and fifth in the 50m breaststroke.
Myles Wheeler competed in the 12- to 13-year-old boys division and finished fifth in the 50m breaststroke.
Girls 14- to 15-year-old age group had Brooke Kienas coming third in the 100m fly and free as well as fifth in the 200m free and sixth in the 400m IM. Nadia Strelioff pushed to a third in the 100m breaststroke a sixth in the 200m breaststroke and a seventh in the 400m IM.
In the 14- to 15-year-old Spartan Boys Conrad Loeppky placed fifth in the 100m breaststroke and seventh in both the 50m and 200m breaststroke. Wyatt Hine finished sixth in the 200m breaststroke and seventh in the 100m breaststroke.
In the 16 and over girls Jessie Gibson won six events including the 100 free, 200 free, 50 back, 200 back, 50 fly and 200 fly as well as third in the 200 I.M. Kila Hine swam to eighth in both the 50m and 100m butterfly and Sydney Torok placed sixth in the 200m fly, 400m free and she was eighth in the 50m free.
As for the 16 and over Spartan boys, Colton Peterson swam to three second place finishes in the 200m free, 50m back and 400m I.M. Carson Olafson won five events in the 100 free, 200 free, 50 fly, 100 fly, 200 fly and a second in the 50m free. Carson Loeppky placed third in the 100 breast, fourth in the 50 breast, fifth in both the 200m breast and 50m fly, seventh in the 400 I.M. and he was eighth in the 50m freestyle. Grayson Bukkos swam to third in both the 200m back and 400m free and he was fourth in the 200 I.M., 100 free and fifth in the 200 free and 400 I.M.
Levi Birkenhead pushed himself to an eighth place finish in the 200m breaststroke.
