The Sardis secondary senior boys soccer team captured third place at the AAA Fraser Valley Championships with a tight 3-2 win over Charles Best Thursday.
The Falcons now have their sights set on a top-five finish at their first provincial appearance in about half a decade. "It's a pretty big accomplishment," coach Shaun Cal-ver said after Thursday's game.
The Falcons missed a chance to battle for top spot in the valley after a 4-0 loss to undefeated Tamanawis last Monday. But the team rallied with a convincing 3-1 win over defending provincial champions Enver Creek two days later, with goals coming from Brandon Wallace, Evan Morelli and Taylor Laviolette.
That put them in the third place game against an aggressive Charles Best side Thursday.
It was the Falcons who scored first, though, with a goal from Wallace about 25 minutes in.
The Blue Devils had to wait until the second half for their first goal, but Wallace struck again about 30 minutes into the second half to put the Falcons back in the lead.
Charles Best answered right back two minutes later.
With 10 minutes left in the game, though, Morelli beat a Blue Devil defender to a high ball into the Charles Best end and tucked it away far post past the opposing keeper.
? The Falcons now head to the Burnaby Sports Complex Nov. 22 to 24 for the provincial championships.
