The Sardis secondary senior boys basketball team defended its claim of being a top-10 triple-A contender at the prestigious Legal Beagle tournament in Coquitlam last weekend.

Despite finishing the tournament with only one win and two losses, the tournament saw the ninth-ranked Falcons take down 10thranked Vancouver College and give the top-ranked Kitsi-lano Blue Demons a run for their money.

Sardis kicked off the tournament with a 63-47 loss against host Terry Fox.

The Falcons led by seven points at the half, but ran out of gas after injuries to two starters and two other players in the first half. Eric Rogers led the way with 17 points.

The second game saw Sardis come back from a 2622 halftime deficit to defeat 10th-ranked Van College 6260 on a buzzer beater by Rogers, who led the team with 26 points. Hayden Lejeune adding another 20 points.

In the third game, it took a Kitsilano shot at the buzzer to stave off another come-from-behind upset by the Falcons.

Sardis lagged behind the top-ranked Blue Demons 59-39 in the third quarter but staged dramatic comeback to tie the game 74-74 with the help of five three-pointers from Lejeune, who scored a game high of 28 points.

A successful Blue Demons basket in the dying seconds, resulted in a 76-74 victory for Kitsilano. Rogers earned a second team all-star nod for the tournament.

In league play the Falcons are 3-0 after defeating Abbotsford 60-55 Tuesday. Their next regular season game is Jan. 22 against Chilliwack.
