Gibson's five first-place finishes tops for Spartan swimmers

 

 
 
 

Athletes from Chilliwack's Spartan Swim Club posted solid results at the Hyack Invitational Swim Meet in New Westminster last weekend.

Jessie Gibson led the way for the Spartans, posting five first-place finishes in the 13-to-14-yearold girls class. Gibson won in the 200-metre backstroke, butterfly and freestyle events, along with the 100-metre butterfly and 400metre individual medley (IM). She also finished second in the 100metre butterfly.

Swimming in the same category, Nadia Strelioff finished fourth in the 100-metre breaststroke, and sixth in both the 200-metre breaststroke and 400-metre IM. Brooke Kienas, meanwhile, finished eighth in the 200-metre IM.

In the boys 12-and-under division, Myles Wheeler finished second in the 400-metre IM and seventh in the 400-metre freestyle. And Wyatt Hine powered his way to eighth in the 200-metre breaststroke in the 13-to-14-year-old boys category.

Several Spartans competed in the 15-and-over boys class. Justin Awrey placed fourth in the 800metre freestyle and seventh in the 200-metre breaststroke. Carson Olafson won the 800-metre freestyle and placed fifth in the 100-metre backstroke, sixth in the 200-metre butterfly and seventh in the 400-metre freestyle.

Colton Peterson placed fifth in the 200-metre IM; and Eduard Stanciu finished eighth in the 400metre IM.
