The G.W. Graham Grizzlies pounded Gordie Howe middle school 48-14 in their first Grade 8 football game Monday in Abbotsford.
Quarterback Wyatt Uzick completed three of four passes for 93 yards and three touchdowns. The Grizzlies were led on the ground by Gabe Mannes (four carries, 108 yards and one touchdown), Emilio Pineda (four carries, 105 yards and one touchdown) and Ethan Mastin (three carries, 30 yards and one touchdown) thanks to the outstanding offensive line play and the blocking of Devan Voss, Gibson Hardie, Jas Chawla and Liam McKormick.
Uzick added 24 yards on three carries of his own, including a four-yard touchdown. Receiver Noah Dubosoff hauled in touchdown passes of 26 and 22 yards from Uzick, while Mannes hauled in a 45-yard touchdown pass coming out of the backfield.
On defense, corner Parker Roach led the way with five tackles, while linebackers Miguel Wood and Mastin each brought down four opponents. The defensive line was relentless and defensive tackles Jake Troyan and Dakota Mathers had several stuffs at the line of scrimmage. Corner Owen Eyres added three tackles including a huge stop on a two-point convert attempt.The Grade 8 Grizzlies open their home schedule at G.W. Graham middle secondary next Oct. 2 at 3: 45 p.m. against Earl Marriott secondary.
