WEATHER COULDN'T STOP THEM
In the snow and rain the U12 Chilliwack Chargers beat the Burnaby United/Bel-lotti Sunday in minor soccer action.
The Chargers outplayed Burnaby the first half but fell behind on an unfortunate break.
Chilliwack rallied, however, with forwards Mimi Devette, Jessica Mansfield and Sara Dyck working well together.
They tied the game when, following a Paige Owens throw-in, Grace Bisson found Carmen Bonnar, who one-timed the ball into the back of the net.
The Chargers came out for the second half wanting a win. Bisson and Dyck each found the net in the second half making the score 3-1 for the Chargers at the end of the game.
C3 BRICK BRINGS HOME GOLD
The Chilliwack C3 Brick Squad brought home gold from a recent midget hockey tournament held in Vernon and Armstrong.
Chilliwack went 5-0 at the tournament. After beating Kamloops, Vernon and North Okanagan in the round robin, they trounced Kelowna 10-2 in the semifinal to advance to the gold medal game. There, they beat Kamloops 3-1, to take home the victor's trophy.
ATTACK-ING, BUT FALLING SHORT
The Chilliwack Attack ladies soccer squad have battled throughout every game this season but have had little to show in the standings. On Sunday, the Attack hosted Coastal FC Supra and fell short again, losing 4-1 despite another spirited effort. Supra opened the scoring at the two-minute mark when a dribbler eluded the Chilliwack keeper.
The Attack rallied, however, and Andrea Feaver knotted the game at one when she redirected a Kirsty Fearn cross at the 18-minute mark.
But Supra regained the lead and scored what proved to be the game-winning goal 10 minutes later.
Chilliwack pushed hard for the equalizer but Andrea Northcott's close in shot banged off the post and, soon after, Deanna Hawes rang one off the crossbar. No more scoring took place until the final six minutes of the game, when Supra scored a pair of quick goals to clinch a 4-1 win.
Deanna Hawes registered a strong game for the Chilliwack side that will travel for a return match Friday night in South Surrey.
