Chilliwack's Kim McLan-dress says her first taste of provincial-championship level curling was "awesome," even if her rink didn't come out on top.
McLandress threw second stones for Simone Brosseau's Victoria rink at the Scotties BC Women's Curling Championship, which concluded Sunday.
Brosseau, McLandress and company went 2-7 at the tournament to finish in a three-way tie for seventh place.
Kelly Scott of Kelowna won the tournament and advanced to the national Scotties, the fourth straight year they have done so. Scott's rink had claimed a narrow 8-7 victory over Brosseau in the final draw of the round robin.
That loss was one of several close defeats the Brosseau team suffered.
"It was a very good experience," said McLandress, who only started curling 10 years ago. "Our win-loss record, I don't think represented what we could have done. We lost four games by one rock."
McLandress who curls three times a week, including twice at the Chilliwack Curling Club, said the Scotties was much more intense than your typical bonspiel.
With every shot and sweep counting, teams paid attention to details that would have gone ignored in your regular club curling game.
"It was very intense, but in a good way," she said. "Every shot has to be perfect every time."
