That had to hurt.
A local chicken laid an egg last week that was so big it had its owners scouring the Internet to see if it was a record.
Marlene Roseboom emailed a photo of her husband Al with the 186-gram egg, more than three times the size of a regular egg.
"Regular eggs are between 52 and 60 grams," Marlene said.
Both the Rosebooms and their partner Darrin Zylstra told the Times they thought they had a record-breaker on their hands.
"I've lived on a farm and worked on a farm my whole life and it's the biggest one I've ever seen," Zylstra said.
Multiple G o o g l e searches turned up nothing bigger than 200 grams.
The massive egg, however, turns out to be a way shy of the world record.
A spokesperson for Guinness World Records told the Times the heaviest egg reported to have been laid by a hen weighed 454 grams.
The egg had double yolk and double shell and was laid by a White Leghorn at Vineland, N.J., on Feb. 25, 1956.
